Dharmawheels lists practice rides on its website and maintains an email list as a convenience to the community in order to aid like-minded cyclists in meeting, training and forming community for the Buddhist Bicycle Pilgrimage and throughout the year. Training rides are not sponsored by Dharmawheels, nor does Dharmawheels offer insurance or assume any liability. These rides are organized informally by individuals like you. Click to see current available rides. However, please note you will need to register on our website to RSVP for the rides. Registration is very simple; start by clicking on the lower left hand side under community-Login. Training rides take place throughtout the Bay Area. These are a few of the most common locales: San Francisco/Marin County Riders often meet in San Francisco at the Sports Basement in the Presidio and then head out over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and beyond. If you're driving into the city, rest assured that there's plenty of easy parking at the Sports Basement. You can also take BART to the Embarcadero station and then bike along the waterfront to the Presidio (it's a flat ride and takes about 20 minutes). These rides cover a variety of picturesque routes through Marin County. For those wishing a shorter route, there's always the option of catching one of the ferry boats back to San Francisco. Sports Basement 610 Old Mason Road From the East Bay, take BART to Embarcadero (20-minute ride to the Presidio) East Bay/Berkeley-Oakland Hills There's an enthusiastic group of cyclists who regulary gather at the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery near downtown Berkeley. Their Sunday morning rides usually begin with an early-morning meditation session, then wheels roll around 8:30 or 9 am. Be prepared to climb, as hills are abundant in the area. You'll be rewarded with views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. It is easy to cover a 30-mile route that includes over 3,000 vertical feet of climbing. And if you don't love the hills, there are also a few flatter rides as well as the option to cut short the longer routes and coast back down to the flats. Berkeley Buddhist Monastery 2304 McKinley Avenue (cross street Bancroft) Downtown Berkeley BART is 4 blocks away Peninsula Rides on the Peninsula usually start around Highway 92 and Canada Road and may extend all the way to the coast. Routes include the beautiful foothills as well as climbs up and over the top! You may pass through San Mateo, Woodside, and even Pescadero. Some of the routes planned by individuals for 2008 start from the Millbrae Bart Station. Millbrae Bart Station 2000 North Rollins Road Millbrae, CA
