"Support and Gear" (SAG) vehicles and pit stops will be available along the route. But, because of the nature of the event as a volunteer effort, riders are encouraged to be as self-sufficient as possible. Please carry basic tools and be prepared to repair your own flat tires, and be sure to carry plenty of water. All participants should also be in good physical shape with the intention to complete the ride on their own power. We recommend all riders take advantage of the training rides organized by other riders. This will get you in shape and provide the opportunity to meet other members of our cycling sangha! Day 1 -- 84 miles Spirit Rock Meditation Center to Sae Taw Win Dhamma Center to KOA Campground On our first day we will meet early at Spirit Rock. An opening ceremony will spiritually fuel us for today's 84 -mile journey. Several organized pit stops along the way will provide water, energy drinks, and snacks, along with a little good cheer and words of encouragement. We'll stop for a simple lunch and talk at Sae Taw Win. The route first heads north from Spirit Rock through Nicasio, Chileno Valley, and Two Rock. We'll skirt Sebastopol before reaching Sae Taw Win in Graton. There are three decent climbs of about 300 feet each this morning. After lunch we'll ride through the vineyards of the Dry Creek valley before a short climb toward Geyserville and final run in to the KOA campground. After our final big climb there will be time for a swim, shower, and great meal. The day will end with a short evening Dharma program at 8pm, then early to bed!
Day 2 -- 53 miles (2010 Route different than previous years!)KOA Campground to City of Ten Thousand Buddhas to Abhayagiri Monastery |
