We'll do beautiful Morgan Territory Rd. Morgan Territory is one of the jewels of East Bay Riding, imo. It's situated east of Mt. Diablo, and has hardly changed over the past 35 years. The top section is now an East Bay Regional Preserve.

Morgan Territory is the main climb, often a single lane. Some photos:

Mostly flat on the return. Earlier bailout points at Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, and Lafayette BART.

We'll stop in Clayton where there's a small park, store, and bathrooms before heading out to MTR. Lunch will be at the top at the Regional Preserve. There's water, bathrooms, and picnic tables. We'll take a rest stop in Danville (or earlier) on the return.

(Note: BOILING hot weather may cancel the ride. Call me if in doubt.).

Meet at Orinda Bart

Of course! Everyone is most welcome and to do as much or as little of the ride as they want, taking off early if needed. No problem! There should be no issue making it to Pleasanton BART by 3, probably much earlier. The duration of the ride on the website was chosen to allow for a slower pace for people doing the ride to help put themselves "over the hump." It is an intermediate ride, but the last half is almost all flat.

It's 52 miles from the start at Orinda BART to Pleasanton BART. Once completing the descent of MTR, it's 12.6 miles to the Pleasanton BART. It's 22.2 miles to the Walnut Creek BART from the bottom of the descent.

Btw, bikemap.net shows the entire route with 3740' of climbing, a much more realistic figure than that of ridewithgps.com on the website. I've invariably found them to overestimate the climbing.

I'd appreciate it if people register for the ride so I have a count, but if not, just show up at BART, no problem. Any questions, pls call me at the # on the website, or email me at the address on the website.

Ricardo Bressanutti Hi Roy, It's a steep uphill for me to the pilgrimage since I'm just off crutches and I don't have a road bike but I'm registered. I may bail at Pleasanton. Don't let me cramp your style.

Stephanie Hi Gordan, I need to be back in SF for the late afternoon, and might need to jump on a BART station as early as 2 or 3pm. Do you think there is a possibility of joining for only part of the ride? Any suggestions? Thank you!
